Philly!

We're still not sure what's going on with Dolores, but there have been two ominous signs:
  1. She got a mess of large, heavy UPS parcels, which she locked up in one of the closets (after first carefully throwing my overcoats onto the floor).

  2. Victorine has arrived, toting her Singer Featherweight. The arrival of Victorine never bodes well for my sanity. She refuses to share Dolores's cushion next to the Victrola because Dolores hogs the blankets, so she's instead sleeping under my drawing board. This morning I forgot she was there until I felt something licking my bare toes.
Harry decided he was going to become a spy and figure out what's going on, but tipped his hand by insisting on wearing his trench coat and slouchy fedora at all times "like the real guys." I don't know what Dolores said when she jibbed what he was up to, but it took two hours and a whole bag of Mint Milanos to coax him out of the cupboard under the sink.

Anyway.

0286The real reason I'm writing today is to let you know that 1,000 Knitters* is coming back to the East Coast. Thanks to the kindness and generosity of owner Jacquelynn, there will be a public shoot at her shop, Wool Gathering, in Kennett Square, Pennsylvania (about 30 minutes south of Philadelphia). We'll be clickin' and knittin' from 9 am-4:30 pm on April 19, 2008.

As Harry would say, "Cowabunga!"

*By the way, in the past month I've started getting a lot of requests to visit specific cities, which is incredibly exciting. At the moment, though, without any sort of underwriting (or a small, personal fortune) I can only travel with the project if my transport and accommodation expenses are underwritten. If you're interested in hosting a shoot, I've got more details on the 1,000 Knitters blog.

Poor Harry! He does suffer so for his love for Dolores. We have to take our friends as they are, non?

I understand the despair over the lack of small personal fortune. May you soon acquire one with the writing of the new book! We will watch you on Leno and sigh "we knew you when".....

So, if I wanted to have you do a personal 1,000 Knitters shoot at my house, all I'd have to do is pay to have you come here?

Wow.

So, Franklin my dear, how many knitters have you shot, anyway? Is there a counter of which I am unaware? I just want to know how long I have to hold on until you come to the DC area and I have a chance to be featured in your book!

I take it that your book isn't far enough along for Interweave to bring you to Columbus for TNNA in June.

Hmmm. Maybe I should go visit my parents outside Philly in mid-April. The dogwoods are lovely that time of year.

Unless you're coming to WEBS soon....

Mint Milanos, eh? Well now Harry does need to marry me--we have something in common besides a wool fetish. Tell the dear I'll keep Dolores at bay for him!

We are so excited. I have two daughters who also knit and we are putting you on our calendar for April. Woot!!!

Buggery.
I was just about to offer accommodation in my lovely
tall house in Elkins Park for your Philly jaunt.
I see Carol has beaten me to it.
Oh well, she does live closer to Kennett Square.
But I get Selma and we'll be there with something resembling bells on.

Whoo hoo! Now I have to convince someone to drive me!

Carol, please hide your kids from a certain sheep...

Philly?! Philly?! I'm in Baltimore...that's close! (Frantically marking date on calendar...)

Has Dolores taken up quilting, like everyone else in the world seems to have? Naw...though I'd pay good money to see what sort of quilt she'd come up with. Can you quilt feather boas and rhinestones?

If you're going to Kennett Square (definitely NOT Philly), you'll have to get someone to drag you to Longwood Gardens and to the Brandywine River Museum for the Wyeths.

And then you have to come to Boston to make up for it.

At least she isn't bringing home any of those hairless sheep. (mutton on the hoof). I think Dolores must somehow be related to my Aunt Ruth (http://knitnzu.com/?p=170, there's a hilarious story after the photos). (I'm 286, with the crazy pig story)

Google says its 2 1/2 hours away. And it's on my one free weekend in April. I am SO there!

Gotta say one thing for that Victorine - she has GREAT taste in sewing equipment. Loves me some Singer Featherlight!

(Hmmmm, Philly's not a bad drive from here....)

Kennett Square is on the way to my mother's house, so we have a place to stay. You are on the calendar; the girl and I will be there. I may recruit my SIL and niece also. How very exciting!

OK, I've found the tap shoes, the glittery minidress, the tambourine - now all I need to do is wait for the temperature to go (oh, I dunno) ABOVE -12 so I can dance on the street corner of State Street with my guitar case open. Shouldn't take me ALL that long to get up the Trave-and-Lodging fees required to get you to Madtown......

Franklin - We can't wait until you get here! You (and Delores, and Harry!) will be greeted at the doors of the shop with open arms...and TONS of excited knitters.

Janet said...

Oh, man, an excuse to go home! Mom moved out here to Ohio, so I only get out east very rarely. But Winterthur and Longwood in spring? And Franklin, too?!!! Road trip!!

Holland is too far I guess and I am broke, sorry!!!

Honey, you have given me a mission to fulfill. You will come to Portland. I'll make sure of it, even if I have to buy your plane tickets. You'll have a place to stay and definitely be fed. Dolores will have to find her own digs.

Sharon Rose said...

If you need a backup place to stay (by that I mean "once Delores has gotten you thrown out of all the good places"), you're welcome at my place in Paoli. I have a very badly behaved girlfriend who would get along famously with your sheepy counterpart. I can't even tell ya how excited I am that you're coming here. My friend Heather is flying out from Seattle to be part of the shoot!

I stumbled upon Wool Gathering (just moved to the area) at exactly the right time! I can't wait to be a part of your project.

Philly? Really? Huzzah! I'll be the one with a photo of a bag of Orange Milanos. You know, for Harry. (Or is Harry strictly a mint man? I switch it up, personally, just can't do the Milano monogamy thing.)

Anonymous said...

I'm delighted to hear that you'll be visiting my neck of the woods! With luck, I'll be showing up with a good portion of my local knitting group. Some of them are hesitant to attend the shoot, but I've told them that I'm pretty sure you don't bite.

(And pooh-pooh Dr. Brat's unkind comments about Longwood Gardens and the Brandywine River Museum. Yes, Boston is lovely, but those two places are, too!)
