Check Out My Bust

Pink Bunny Hat, 50% complete.
Originally uploaded by panopticon.

The little pink bunny hat is proving to be a hoot, not to mention a holler.

I achieved closure on the body last night at some ridiculous hour. While preparing to photograph it lying flat, I realized that the perfect baby hat model was close at hand.

As you can see by the expression on Victoria's face, she was not entirely pleased at being pressed into service. However, when C commented that it makes her look years younger, her disposition improved markedly.

And no, the resemblance to Darth Vader's helmet has not escaped me.

I'm trying to learn something new with every project, and this one has short row shaping and I-cord, both of which are marvelous fun.

I confess it did take me three tries to finally puzzle out exactly what one needs to do to make the I-cord. I'm not sure if this means I'm not enough of an idiot, or way too much of one. The latter, I fear. It would explain a lot.

I think a pink Darth Vader helmet is the perfect headgear for the woman who presided over policies that helped create wholesale famine across the southern hemisphere (see "Late Victorian Holocausts" by Mike Davis).

You can always count on me for your ray of sunshine, no?

In any case, I must thank you for making innumerable wry witticisms--about Victoria's disposition no less--while entirely eschewing reference to anyone being "amused," or not.

I love i-cord.

But please, don't feel like an idiot. (In second or third or fourth grade, or whenever it is that they teach children the devastating math concept called "greater than and lesser than," I was utterly stumped by the entire concept. Basically I'd immediately grasped and then discarded as too easy the whole concept of pointing a caret in the direction of the smaller of two numbers. I mean, who would seriously waste class time on something that stupid?)

I shall proceed to believe that i-cord gave you a wee stumble because you thought it would be harder than it actually is.

And that's final.

Mushlette, thank you for proving a point for me. I'm going to quote you on my teaching blog, if you don't mind. If you do mind, just let me know & I'll remove it.

I-cord seriously confused me at first as well, so please don't feel like an idiot, because that would make me one too :) Once I actually just read the directions with a project in hand involving I-cord, I got it. Your hat looks terrific! said...

Goodness, there is a lot of useful data here!
