Bits 'n' Bobs

I got photographs from Susan of Abigail in her Tulip Jacket. Already she combines the verve of Suzy Parker and the emotional versatility of Lisa Fonssagrives.

Tour Swag

Those of you who haven't caught Dolores and Her Ball Band on the road can now pick up souvenirs (posters, bags, shirts and such) in the shop.

Loopy Yarns 1000 Knitters Shoot

Just a reminder that I'll be shooting for the project at Loopy Yarns during their anniversary party this Friday evening, September 7, from 5 pm to about 8:30 pm. If you'd like to participate, there's no need to sign up in advance, just be there and be ready to knit. If you haven't already done so, please check out the Information for Knitters page on the project blog.

I notice in the Loopy Yarns blog that they're having a 20% off sale on Mirasol Yarns from Peru on that day. Hmm.

A Question Answered

This is from way back. Reader Tami was curious about the children's books pictured along with the Tulip Jacket. They are:
  • Lullaby-Land by Eugene Field
  • Cinderella and Other Nursery Stories (in an edition by F. Warne & Co., circa 1900)
  • Merrie England by Grace Greenwood
  • A Little Garden Calendar, an utter horror perpetrated by Albert Bigelow Paine
  • The Children's Book of London by G.E. Mitton
I have to share the inscription written in a very tight, precise hand on the half-title page of the last:
To Elizabeth and Sidney - To recall a delightful Noël in London and the affection and best wishes of their friend and Rector. 1905. N.D. Moxon

Enigmatic is my favorite! She's like a little Greta Garbo.

What a gorgeous kid. Now that her hair has come in, though, she seems to bear less of a resemblance to her uncle.

By the way, 'fess up, readers: how many of you had to Google Lisa Fon--whatchamajigee? 'Cuz I did.

Franklin, if you liked the Pallisers I think you'd really love the Duchess of Duke Street. I think there are 10 episodes, they are great. for your next lace shawl :-)

By gum, she's adorable. Moreso every day.

Abigail the Enigmatic...I like the sounds (and look) of it.

Cudos to the photographer, too. Those transient moods can be so very hard to capture at that age. But Abigail's comfort in front of a camera already shows.

What a gorgeous child - and I love that sweater, so much so that I ordered a kit. Now...must find a baby.

I'm sure Abigail has more fun emoting with verve in a gorgeous, vividly colored jacket rather than 'baby' pastels. She looks beautiful. Jacket ditto. ;) Thanks much re the tour swag! And I love that book inscription. Talk about making you try to imagine the history...

Fabulous photos -- I'm going to pack up my Tulip Cardigan this afternoon and send it to a wee Alison and hope Alison's mom will quickly send me back a photo -- I love the Tulip, but I love it with a baby wearing it even better! Thanks for sharing.

So, so cute! I wish some of the stores near me carried Dream in Color, I must knit that Tulip Jacket for my son.

My, but she's growing up to be an adorable baby, but I suppose it's not surprising, given that her parents are blessed with the attractive genes. It'll be interesting, though, to see if she keeps the blonde.

Oh, and the jacket is really lovely on her, too. ;-)

She IS a beautiful baby.

I have the most delightful, intelligent, charming nieces in the world. Looks like they have some very stiff competition with Abigail.

Isn't that un-ending well of love a wonderful thing to experience?

Oh, and I just ordered one of your prison knitting t-shirts. I can't wait to wear it to the pub.

I have an identity and am no longer a lurker! AND, I just shopped buying "Virgin Wool Tour 2007" - well, everything. I am going to enjoy using the cards and postcards as giftcards with knitty things. AND, I get to enjoy lovely pictures of beautiful Abigail cuddled in her uncle's love. This has been a truly successful evening.

So, I don't suppose you plan to be at the Creativ Festival (http://www.csnf.com/f07_index.html) in October in Toronto? There will be many knitters there, among other crafters of all sorts. I plan to travel there from Ottawa. Wouldn't it be grand if your 1000 Knitters boasted an intertnational flavour?
Just asking

Sister Sue has made a very lovely baby. She doesn't look half bad in your tulip jacket either. She's one lucky bub to have a doting uncle like you.

Awwww. She's getting big! And don't you just love the inscriptions, clippings and other stuff that you find in used books. I bought a book by J.M. Barrie a while back and it has the nicest handrawn bookplate in it. So it inspired me to design my own bookplate and print a bunch on Avery label stock. Now I'm thinking that I should have paid attention to whether the labels are acid-free. I have only put them in new books, that's my rule for some reason. I'm wondering Franklin if you have bookplates that you've drawn? It seems like something you would have done. Hope that's not prying.

Oooh, that's what that look is, enigmatic. Here I thought it was the "poopie" look... ;)

Beautiful baby and equally beautiful sweater.

Anonymous said...

OMG She is beautiful and adorable and all those other little girl things! How do you stay away? Nice sweater, uncle!

Anonymous said...

Holy cow dude. Don't go waving that sweater around like that, especially with that baby in it.

It's a powerful hoodoo.

Abigail will credit you as an early influence on her modeling career.

Well, somewhere there're infant boys sleeping happily in their cribs with no idea that they're going to have their hearts broken by a Stunner with a Clever Uncle in years to come....and when I get home (to my secure innernet connecton) I am SO going to order Dolores' poster. Also - Franklin, there's an aged bubbeh in Wisconsin who loves you; if you ever need to flee north to rest in obscurity for a while let me know!

Rector? I barely touched her!

It takes great poise and je ne sais quois to project that "enigmatic" thing when you've got a pale blue cartoon puppy dog appliqued to the front of your overhauls.

Boy, I sure wish I had an uncle like you when I was a baby! Abigail is one lucky little niece.

Angie said...

I cannot believe how big she's gotten! She is just one cutie patootie!

SuzySZ said...

I think Abigail is curious about exactly how you put that edging on her sweater.Oviously a gal with a keen eye!

Hope you are well....
