Tidal Wave on the Fifteenth Floor

A mysterious parcel arrived from Denver which, when opened, it threatened to swamp the place, thus:

Poor, put-upon Victoria. All those years of being smothered by smoke in London pub, and now she lives in Chicago in mortal peril from flood tides of yarn. This is no way for a queen to live. And believe me, I should know.

We got Rowan Cork, we got Kidsilk Haze, we got Jo Sharp DK Aran in exactly the colors I needed to complete the line-up for Susan's wrap. We got enough yarn here to necessitate the buying of storage bins because chucking everything behind the sofa in bags is no longer working. I am knitting as fast as I can, yet the pile grows higher.

Very odd, encountering Lady Bountiful in the guise of a guy from Colorado. Isn't the knitting world strange?

That guy from CO, he sure is a sneaky one! What a great mini stash to get you started... come on over to the dark side of obsessive stash acquisition, the water's fine.

Wow! Now's your chance to buy more shoes. ;)

If you knit up a swatch, I'll design a hoodie for you!

On the storage bins, I recommend Hol from Ikea (I may have that name a bit wrong but it's close). they are wooden end-table box type things. Lattice. look nice.

Can be right out on plain view next to the sofa and no-one knows they are full of yarn. I have two square ones. They also do a rectangle. You have to be careful not to spill your drink but ...

Gorgeous yarn! What a great guy. And I hear you on the plastic bags not cutting it anymore. I'm going out to price bins this weekend...

Oh, for the days when mere bins would suffice ...

Can you say storage room? Can you say that in plural? And then the bags and boxes and bins all over the house.

My husband will likely leave me soon. I look forward to the storage space.

As for the Rowan Cork, isn't it lovely? I got a box sent to me recently and am searching for the ideal pattern -- this stuff is MINE! I have about 8 balls in "plush", and if I had no boobs it would be just enough for a sweater ...

Sir Edwin uses the long, flat, plastic bins you can get at Target. They're like eight or ten inches deep and three feet long. You get the idea.

She has two closets full of storage bins, stacked (it would be easier if they were in drawers, but drawers don't seem to come in the appropriate size/shape). One closet is for cotton, wool/cotton blends, and other summery fibers like linen and bamboo. The other closet holds wool, arranged by weight.

It's a little sick, but it sure is purty.

I hope she doesn't kick me out for the storage space. I certainly do use more than my share. Oh!!! I just realized...I guess my time isn't up yet, but she *has* been taking carloads of my old stuff to Goodwill every week... and here I just thought she was sick of the clutter...

you've got kidsilk crack! (i mean haze!) i'm so jealous! i don't have anybody to roak me, :(. sok, i'll just buy it for myself!

very nice. and i passed the plastic bin storage solution years ago. i've got 8 sets of plastic drawers, several bags, and a pie safe full of yarn. sigh. i'm 39 and i do believe i've hit sable.

I have progressed/deteriorated to two large, old wooden blanket boxes, that to the unitiated(nonknitter) look and function as coffee tables. It works well, or it did until I exceeded their capacity, but we won't even think about that. A girl needs a buffer zone, living in the Antipedes, so far from all yarn except Jo Sharp.

Mr. Colorado has spoiled you well!

My yarn stash has grown to the point that I think of it as having great acoustics!

you live on the 15th floor? wow!

seriously, all that stash is great fire-proofing. I once read about a lady who's house caught on fire but all the yarn in her attic kept the roof safe :)

Clear plastic shoe/boot/underbed boxes from the container store work well. Since they are clear, you can create pretty mosiacs with the yarn or at least see what you have before you go buy more blue wool just like the blue wool in that box over there...

Thanks so much for giving everyone a very superb opportunity to read in detail from this blog. It really is so enjoyable and as well , full of amusement for me and my office co-workers to search the blog nearly three times weekly to find out the fresh issues you will have. And indeed, I'm just at all times satisfied with your attractive tricks you give. Certain 4 ideas in this post are surely the most impressive we have ever had.
