Miniature Entry: New York

The desk clerk on the second floor at The Strand looked exactly like a Fred Armisen character from Portlandia and I was going to snicker and then I realized that I was wearing a bow tie and a 1930s Swedish shooting jacket and a newsboy cap and wingtip shoes and a chin beard and so do I.

Absolutely gorgeous!

Never seen Portlandia, I'm terrified to watch. Little too close to home... But you, sir, look adorable. Are you aging backwards? Because you look early 20s here and that seems unfair to the rest of us.

I've never seen Portlandia, either, but without the beard you would be the most beautiful gamin.

Bow ties are cute!

DH asked me how many books you bought. He also enjoyed his visit to The Strand some time ago.

Bow Ties are cool.
You look lovely.

New glasses? Those aren't the round frames I've come to associate with you. I'm drop dead envious of that lovely golden skin you have.

Is that you, or is that the desk clerk?

It's a good thing in you're New York, then -- everyone probably just thought you were from Brooklyn. :)

Also, dapper!

But as 11 would say: "Bow Ties are Cool!"

I hate it when I realize I'm a hipster. It doesn't help at all that I live in Portland.

You though, look absolutely adorable. Next time you are in my city we'll have some home-brewed ginger ale that'll make your eyes water.

Very nice, very nice, and if this gentleman looks anything like you then he may smirk proudly to himself-- but the real point here: you are going to report to us regarding this utterly enviable trip to The Strand, yes?

You had me at the bow tie.

LOL! Brilliant, Fred!

Strand bookstore is one of my favorite places. I'll have to check out the 2nd floor "book guy" and maybe tell him he looks just like Franklin Habit (in case he does)...I'll be there for 11 days (NY, not the Strand) in 2 weeks...

Oh, the Strand! Buy a book for me, 'kay?

Regarding your Uhlan hat-- What do you think of this one? I was looking through ravelry.com for a balaclava and found it: http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/blodeuwedd-headover

Freaking LOVE the bow tie....and the newsboy hat, but especially the bow tie. And you look great in both. And would be a crime not to wear them when you pull it off so well.

Hi Franklin... I don't know where else to post this... I'm reading your lovely blog from the beginning, and it appears that your link for the Camellia something or other from October of 2007 has been hijacked... It took me to a porn site... I thought you would like to know.

Love your blog, btw! Thanks for all the laughs. :-)

you are too, too funny!!!

Hi Franklin - I remembered (finally) to drop a line with the book I was going to recommend you after your Victorian knitting talk. I think you'd like it.
