Man in Crisis

No, not me. Not this time.

My friend Jonathan, the boy half of the Two Sock Knitters, has misplaced his copy of Simply Shetland 2 during a household move and this has brought his Fair Isle sweater (which is freaking gorgeous) to a standstill.

If you are in a position to loan a copy, won't you please let him know? The world needs this sweater to be finished. Seriously. It's that beautiful.

I hope to be back with a shawl report tomorrow. It's crunch time here. I'm heading out to Maine next week and have to finish the remaining artwork I promised for the nursery. (The bunnies and the giraffe, at least, are already there; so Abigail won't spend her first night at home in a room with bare walls.)

This is how she looks when she's sleeping.

zzzzzzz

Yeah, another baby picture. But it could be worse. I could have a cat.

Could I be first, Uncle Panopticon? I doubt it...howsomever, compliments to the photographer. Young Abigail has the right idea - be sure to tell La Maman to sleep when La Petite does. There's a lot of sleeplessness involved with someone's First Days at Home! Looking forward to shawl pictures too.

Load up on the baby pix - they are all amazing and AA is even more so cuz she's part yours.

The concurrent pregnancy in our family produced a lovely boy, Hudson Robert, 9lb 8oz & just under 24" long, on May 16. My 3rd stepgrandbaby, joining his two girl cousins.

Happy baby smiles all round. Congrats to your sister & brother-in-law.

Tell mama and daddy congratulations on popping out a beautiful baby. Have fun in Maine!

So beautiful! Lucky parents, lucky you. You will love seeing that new baby I know. I give you a quote from a book I am reading, "Ahab's Wife," as the character tells of her joy in her new baby: "His breath! I put my nostrils in the way of his exhalation so that I might inhale his discarded sweetness." The smell of new babies is unlike anything else; I never tired of their smell and feel in my arms, and I had five! Enjoy every moment, they grow so quickly. Thanks for the lovely pic.

Abigail is absolutely lovely. Enjoy your time with your family.

The world can never have too many baby pictures.

Surely there is no better teacher in the ways of peace and satisfaction than a sleeping infant. Isn't that why we gaze at them enraptured? Lead on Abby and pay attention Uncle. Congrats.

More baby pictures! More! What a gorgeous little Maniac! Have fun and say 'hi' to my Atlantic for me. I'm from "The County" originally and love the ocean. Lake Michigan just doesn't cut it! Congratulations again, Uncle Franklin!

Baby pictures are always welcome. Cats are another story.

Oh, PLEASE don't think we will tire of the baby pictures! LOVE THEM! I bet you cannot wait to get there and hold her!!

She looks so peaceful and so beautiful!! I could watch a baby sleeping for hours on end!

Sorry, I cannot help with the book :( I am sure someone will be able to though with as many people that your blog reaches!

Congratulations again, Uncle!

God she's beautiful.

She looks like you.

Maybe it's the hairline.

She's absolutely beautiful, Uncle Franklin. Congratulations! Enjoy your visit!

Baby pictures are all much better than cat pictures. Babies do cute things, they grow and change and amaze us. Cats are just cats. They serve no real purpose except when they contribute to the food chain and eat rodents. And that's ot so cute that you'd want a picture of it.

Your niece is more beautiful every day.

*gasp*

Cutest. Baby. Ever.

Franklin, you go ahead and post as many baby pictures as you want! We won't get tired of them. We're all holding our breath for the first picture of the baby with her shawl. Congratulations to you and your family.

Franklin, I may have a copy? Can you email me and let me know which pattern he is doing, so I can make sure I have the right book?

Well, I am of the contingent that swoons over cat pictures rather than baby pictures, so coming from me, this is HIGH PRAISE: that is One. Cute. Baby.

May we call you Uncle Pan?

I've got it. I'll write to him directly

I am fully expecting this blog to become littered with pictures of the beautiful Abigail, including one of her wonderful Uncle Franklin holding her. We will accept no less.

She's SOOOOO beautiful. Almost makes me want to have another one...almost, but not quite. I think I'll just make some socks instead. I'm looking forward to a time when mine are old enough that I can do fair isle knitting with them in house (I'm not sure if that's ever going to happen).

Ok. Your niece is just gorgeous!

You've got the plane ride there right? You've got some times to finish it up!!! As Tony Little would say "YOU CAN DOOOO-IIITTTT!!"
Abigail is too cute!! I love sleeping baby pics! That's when they are their best! ;-)

Bring on the baby pictures! Love 'em! And get a load of that perfect cupid's bow mouth. So precious. I just want to scoop her up and sniff her precious little self.

Wow. Gush much?

She is beautiful Uncle Franklin. Congratulations and enjoy your visit.

She is beautiful! And there is nothing wrong with filling your blog with pictures of your cat, not like I would do that of course...

Mary said...

You crack me up with that cat comment. Particularly when I think of Dolores. Congratulations Franklin.
And all the best wishes for your niece.

Karen said...

Thank heavens you don't have a cat! Baby pictures are much better. Congrats to all!

Carina said...

She is just totally beautiful. She deserves the shawl. :-)

Seanna Lea said...

I love the cat comment. I have a cat, but she rarely shows up on my blog (I am a very lazy photographer).

The young'un looks very cute. Enjoy Maine!

Ruth said...

There's no such thing as too many baby pictures. Bring 'em on.

Don't you dare stop with the baby pictures!

Franklin, she is perfect.

Andrea Rusin said...

OOHHH! She's gorgeous. Worthy of the best christening shawl ever, which I'm sure she'll have soon ;)

I love the baby pictures. (I tolerate cat pictures but am unenthusiastic.) It will be lovely for you to hold her.

Or you could have 3 cats...and be "drunk, divorced, and covered in cat hair", just like crazy aunt purl!

I can't wait to see the finished shawl (no pressure!), and be sure you post a pic of Baby A with it :-)

Abigail is just so, well, freaking gorgeous! (And despite what anyone says, yes, you can tell the funny looking ones from the gorgeous ones, even as newborns, and Abigail definitely one of the gorgeous ones.) She's gonna be a heartbreaker that her dad is going to have to beat off the suitors when she's older with a big stick!
:-)

nothing wrong with cat pix.

Well, if you do manage to find a break in all the oohing and aahing while you're out this way (though I can certainly understand where it might be difficult), do give a call. It'd be nice to see you again.

I am sure I won't be the first (or the last) to say this, but I am still compelled to do so: awwwwwwwwwww.

awwww, baby. I miss having tiny ones!

Sleep, that beautiful thing that new parents crave and babies do so well . . . at intervals.

That's the SAME blanket my son was wrapped in (the blue & pink striped one). Somewhere there is a factory making those by the bale.

Diane said...

It's your blog so post all the cute baby pics you want. She's adorable.

Unknown said...

She is amazing. Nuff said.

What a Cutie Patootie! I wish I could remember my kids that size.

Anonymous said...

What a beautiful child. I think you have lost your heart. Whenever the shawl is done she and her parents will love it.

Anonymous said...

Ahh, Franklin, it is worse -- you have a sheep. I must say the pictures of Abigail are MUCH cuter, but don't tell Dolores I said that. Mary B

PS Abigail won't be spending her first night alone in her room, period. She'll be cuddled warm and close to mom. She may not sleep in her own room for months!

PPS She sure is beautiful!

Anonymous said...

Oh my, she's awfully sweet. Her mouth looks like bird wings in flight.
Mama has that oh so familiar look that is the combination of utter exhaustion and complete euphoria. sigh!

I've posted pics of my niece and my cats. (Limited quantities of each, so I think I get a pass.) Abigail is a very pretty baby and quite deserving of her shawl.

Lovely picture, congrats, my baby turns 13 tomorrow, you'll enjoy being her Uncle for years but they're little for such a short time, have a great visit.

She is beautiful.
As if inspired by her, my own nephew finally arrived yesterday morning. 8.5 lbs.

Even more coincidentally, he is in Maine too, and I also am going up to spend next week with them.

I'll look out for you on I-95!

congrats, man!

Oh, my. What an absolutely *beautiful* baby! She's just gorgeous. :)

Anonymous said...

Ahh, dear Uncle, I hate to tell you this, but this is the first of many, many, many photos of the little wee one.

Kate said...

She has the most perfect Cupid's bow. (Kinda makes Jeanne's 'Uncle Pan' even more appropriate!)

There's a baby photo amnesty for new uncle/aunts that lasts at least 6 months. After that, there's usually another of this generation in the family to rave over (at least that's how my family works - 13 and still counting...).

Anonymous said...

Delurking to tell you what a beautiful baby Abigail is. Waiting eagerly to see her wraped in your shawl. Congrats to you and her parents.

sweet sweet baby.

You can never have too many baby photos. She is beautiful. Sorry I can't help with the book - fairisle is one of my bete noirs (don't know where the circumflex is). I know you are busy and that this is bad timing, but I have tagged you for a meme -see http://flea-bites.blogspot.com/ If you would rather, I'll remove your name.

I had tagged you before for a Thinking Blogger, but didn't know until recently that I had to tell you (I'm on a bit of a learning curve here!) - see http://flea-bites.blogspot.com/2007_04_22_archive.html#5646725845615943317

oh my word, she is absolutely edible.........but Franklin... the shawl?... apparently your sis could only keep her legs together for so long... the question is...did you knit fast enough, or what?

Anonymous said...

Oh, what a beautiful baby! And I'm with the others who say you can't have too many baby pictures. Or toddler pictures. Or kid pictures. We'll get back to you about those teenage years.

Though I don't agree with the dissing of cats. A sleeping cat rivals a sleeping baby for sheer embodiment of relaxation.

Maine next week? Are you by any chance coming to the Fiber Frolic in Windsor that weekend? It would be great to see you there.

OMG that's so funny...

I am sooo sick of seeing people's CAT pictures on their blog. I mean really, how many different ways are there to show a picture of a cat?

Now new babies OTOH? TOTALLY different. Go ahead and keep on posting those!

She is just the most adorable baby. They're wonderful at that age.

When I had mine (on Christmas morning no less!) I spent the rest of the night until the sun rose just watching him sleep.

It gets crazy from here on out. ;)

But she's lovely.

Oh my gawd. She is just beautiful. So small and perfect and untouched by the world. I'm not the weepy sort, but she makes me tear up a bit.
