...or: How I Worked Nine Feet of Garter Stitch and Almost Lost My Mind.
Above is the Amsterdam Scarf, all finished.
It's about as lackluster a project as you will ever see. The specs? 100% garter stitch, made from some cheap Turkish yarn the name of which I don't recall.
By way of a pattern, I made the first half blue with three gray stripes (like the London Beanie). The second half switches to gray, with three blue stripes.
The damned thing did not get finished in time to accompany the beanie to Amsterdam, so when I came back it took a lot of self-discipline to pick it up and finish it. The mirror-image pattern meant I couldn't just stop it short and call it done.
Here's the funny part: I really like it. The colors suit me, the switch in ground color halfway through looks unexpectedly cool when it's around my neck, and the weight and width are precisely what I require in the middle of a Chicago winter.
Who would have thought crap yarn and garter stitch could make a guy feel so happy?

Well, funny you would say that, I can't help noticing that I got more comments about that post than anything else I've ever written.

Of course, I also got an e-mail from my younger sister this morning asking if I ever think about the fact that she might read what I write.

Here's an interesting train of events about giving out a blog address. I gave mine out to my sister, who gave it to my mom (which I wish she hadn't, but that's another story).
My mom gives my blog address to my aunt and uncle. THEY, in turn, give it to my cousin who lives in New York. In my list of referring sites, I see his name dot com. So I go check it out. It's HIS blog.
Where he very directly states that he "bats for the other team." Which I've been suspecting for the longest time but didn't want to ASK because it's none of my bidness. But it's just nice to know. And I love him even more.
Silly Tricky...the stories where the towel comes off all go in the OTHER blog.
And yep, nine feet. However, given what happened to poor, immortal Isadora (and what almost happened to me with a Boston subway door while wearing my first 11-foot scarf) I've learned to be enormously careful.

I could have! I could have told you that a boring, basic, mind-killingly dull project would yield one of your most wearable FOs! I mean, it pretty much always works like that for me. *hehe*
