Quickie

I am typing this from the airport in San Francisco, waiting for the plane to Eureka for the Northcoast Knittery events. I whispered a fond goodbye to Seattle half-asleep, from the back of a taxi; but I'm not finished with it yet.

At present, with boarding imminent, I'll confine myself to a single image, caught at random on the street downtown during one of my free days.

Seattle

I had more random sightings of this kind in Seattle than I've ever had anywhere else, which may help to explain why I felt so at home.

More soon.

So you are saying that more dogs press their noses against the pavement in Seattle than any other city? Interesting.

  3. But why is she sitting there and not on a chair...I wonder....and is she waiting for someone to put on that sweater she is just finishing?

  4. I too can understand the feeling of "home" in Seattle. I moved to the area a month ago and it just feels good. We'd love to have you move here .. I think you'd make an excellent addition to our knitting groups. ;)

  7. Those of us in the Puget Sound must knit. Yarn and microbrews -- the only way to get through 300 days of cloud cover without killing someone :)

  8. You would see the same thing all over here in the Portland, Or area too.. Enough rain, clouds, wind to keep you happy with knitting.. Of course I'm still working on my winter cardigans, socks, etc in the summer.. but I'm a fanatic...

  9. Dude...
This place is LOUSY with knitters.
Plus some of the best yarn stores in the Universe.
More than enough reason to move here. Just sayin'.
(And you can leave your snow shovel at home!)

  10. I live sixty miles from Seattle and had to drive in for a meeting a few weeks ago. When I arrived, I mentioned to the woman (a stranger) in the seat next to me that I was a bit frazzled from the traffic and she offered to lend me her knitting for a few minutes. I love this town!

  11. Oh, and in answer to Slip, Knit's question. She is probably sitting there because the sun was out. If the sun is shining we go out and sit in it!

  16. I don't know why I don't go outside and knit more often in Boston. Scenes like these make me want to take my needles out and go to the park.

That pic captures it. Here in MT it is a sunny day and you just can't beat knitting in the sun with your dog right there. Nearly heaven.

  18. I agree with Gina! I live in Oregon, and when the sun is out, we appreciate it and go outside! You see knitters everywhere. I went to the coast a few weeks ago and I was just knitting a simple scarf...you'd be surprised how many people just stopped and chatted about knitting/fiber!

  19. What a great picture! Sweet, sweet puppy, and a happy knitter in the sun. Ahhhhhhh. I've only been to the Seattle area twice, both briefly, and I'd love to explore it more. Knowing that it has the best yarn shops in the Universe just makes me want that more.

Oh, and I mostly had to post because my verification word is "wicardi". I'm guessing that's the booze of choice at cheap pagan gatherings. *ducks thrown items*

I hope the knitter you photographed contacts you. She'd probably be tickled pink to be one of your subjects, and anxious to have a copy of the picture.

Cool. I'm planning a move from Minneapolis (where I've lived my entire life) to Seattle and this makes me feel more sure than ever it's the right decision.

  24. Knitting and a dog - what could be better! (PS - I'm keeping an eye on the shop, hoping for a 2010 knitting ornament. Is there one in the works?)
