Nesting

Greetings, y'all, from Austin.

The trip down was lovely. I flew out of  nasty, rainy, chilly Chicago and landed in sunny, warm (okay, hot) Texas right on schedule. I am almost pathetically happy to be here. The people are friendly, the sun is shining, and it's hot. Super hot. My spicy Arabian blood is dancing for joy.

The Austinites think I'm insane, and keep pulling me back into the air conditioning, but they didn't spend the winter (which is still going on) in Chicago.

Dolores and Harry have opted to spend the afternoon at the hotel pool. So far, there have been no frantic text messages from Harry so I presume little miss fluffy hasn't groped a lifeguard or done a drunken cannonball into the lobby fountain.

It looks to be a fun shooting day tomorrow. There are piles of people signed up.  I'm typing this from the big work table at The Knitting Nest in company with a delightful group of ladies who have come all the way from Dallas for a getaway weekend with 1,000 Knitters as the centerpiece and stopped by early to say hello and get first crack at all the yarn.

Here's a group shot, courtesy of the Photo Booth program on my Mac.

Dallas Contingent

I'm the bald one. Left to right, with hair, are Annise, Liz, Betty, and Tasha. In the background, Malabrigo and Cascade.

If this isn't heaven, I hope heaven is something like this.

  5. I think it's wicked cool that there are knitters all over the country that just can't wait to see you, and to be seen by your lens.

I can identify with wanting to be out in the heat rather than reproducing winter with the AC. Have fun.

  8. I'm coming tomorrow with Kristina and the Rockstars are truly living up to their name to be on your blog. Jealous doesn't quite cover it...I know you are having fun with THAT group.

And I'm really looking forward to that malagrigo. Nobody in Dallas/Fort Worth carries it.

  9. If you want your afterlife to be that warm, you need to hang out with Delores more instead of doing your photoshoots. :)

  10. If Delores goes missing, look for her at the Driskill Hotel. It's where I plan to live when I finally fulfill my dream of living in a divine hotel!

  11. My peeps! How fun to see the Rockstars on a road trip. You will, indeed, have a great weekend if you're hanging with those folks. Drink lots of water! That heat'll sneak up on ya.

  14. Wish I could be there, but Austin is just a bit far for me to drive in one day. It's definitely one of my favorite cities!

Also, you are crazy -- it is HOT.

Have you had a million emails yet about the season finale of Lost? Jeremy Bentham figured heavily in it. :)
    Cheers!

  17. Thanks for coming to Austin! I was so glad to chance upon the shoot and get to meet you. I don't get down to south Austin much, so I hadn't been keeping up with Knitting Nest activities (I teach at a far north Austin shop). Everyone sure was nice, and I hope you got some great shots!

  18. The Knitting Nest describes you as "a knitting rock star"; that may well be true...

well, you missed a truly gorgeous Chicago weekend! It sure seemed like summer yesterday and Saturday while I was pulling weeds in the hot sun. Of course, I have northern European roots, so anything over 82 is too hot for me. I bet they loved you in Austin!

  20. Now see, it's lovely and warm up here in Madison too! Maybe your being THERE warmed the whole Upper Midwest (can we send you to the Carribbean?). I can't tell you how pleased I am to hear that our Candidate is behaving (that buzzing you hear is me praying). Please tell Harry to call ME on our interstellar communicator IN CASE HE NEEDS TO (he'll know what that means). In the meantime, have a BLAST! Those lucky girls and guys, to have you among them...

  21. The Knitting Nest looks like a great shop to spend a day. Reminds me that is has been far too long since I was last at my LYS. But soon!

they're holding you captive and not letting you blog, aren't they?

I want you to move to San Francisco (or the area...I'm in oakland), meet a nice boy, settle down, and hey, get married! We can get married here now, ain't it cool?

move here and be my bestest friend - I'll help keep an eye on Dolores and Harry.....

I just listened to STICKS and STRING with David Reidy and lo and behold, there you were! Nice interview, although it took several pauses for me to explain to my son about Dolores and I still don't think he understands. (Does anyone, really?)

  28. Well, I'm suspecting that Dolores got in really deep this time: http://www.nytimes.com/2008/06/09/us/09texas.html?ex=1370750400&en=64abe93d

You know how she likes to have the candles all around to catch the glow of the Cosmos through the glass.

We better get the bail fund going.
